WFG MEMBER HAS SOLO EXHIBIT AT ACEART

Mar 3, 2009

The Winnipeg Film Group is pleased to announce that Heidi Phillips’ short film REVIVAL wil be featured in a solo exhibition at Winnipeg’s aceartinc. along with Collin Zipp’s ARCHIVE.

The show runs March 13 to April 9, 2009 with the launch on Friday, March 13 at 7:00 pm.

There will be an Artist Talk on Saturday, March 14, 2009 at 2:00 pm.

“In REVIVAL, Phillips takes her well-known layered dreamlike style to another level, making use of a full palette of sounds. Words half-heard, momentary silences, sounds of technology and rhythmic repetition create a hypnotic, entrancing soundscape to echo extensively hand processed found film footage. Viewers look up at the hovering body of helicopter that is by turns a vehicle for redemptive rescue or a harbinger of something ominous. REVIVAL is a spiritual search that gives us an inkling of our ultimate destination.” (more)

Heidi Phillips obsessively sifts and searches through old films and found footage, lifting imagery and sound to recycle into her own layered and loosely structured narrative works. Her work has been screened in such festivals as Transmediale, Berlin and Images, Toronto.? She completed her MFA from Transart Institute in Austria in August of 2008.

REVIVAL will have its film festival premiere at the IMAGES FESTIVAL in APRIL 2009 in Toronto.
