James McLellan’s clever thriller Period Piece has won Best Canadian Short Film – Audience Choice Award (Gold) at the 9th annual Toronto After Dark Film Festival. Congratulations to James and the entire cast and crew!

Toronto After Dark Film Festival is one of the world’s leading showcases of new Horror, Sci-Fi, Action and Cult cinema. Each October, in the run-up to Halloween, the critically acclaimed event, screens about 50 new feature films and shorts over nine exciting nights in front of approximately 10,000 attendees,  including over 100 members of Press and Industry in Canada’s largest city.” This year’s festival was held October 16-24.

ABOUT THE FILMMAKER

James McLellan was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba and was educated at the University of Manitoba (B.F.A. 95, B.Ed. 1997). As a teacher in Winnipeg’s Pembina Trails School Division, James has pioneered a secondary school filmmaking program. He was awarded a Prime Ministers Award of Excellence for his efforts. James has worked hard to develop his craft as a director and producer, borrowing leadership and planning skills from his 16 years in the Canadian Forces. He is influenced daily by the students in his classrooms.
