16 works from WFG catalogue featured in gallery exhibit

The Winnipeg Film Group is pleased to announce that a number of films from our Distribution Department catalogue are screening at Gallery 1C03 at the University of Winnipeg.

Running January 12 – February 18, 2017, Moving Images is an exhibition of 23 short films and videos created by artists affiliated with The University of Winnipeg. The exhibition is co-curated by Gallery 1C03 director/curator Jennifer Gibson and art historian and film critic Alison Gillmor.

The Opening Reception will be held Thursday, January 12, 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Gallery 1C03 and at 7:00 p.m.  there will be a Conversation with Guy Maddin, Evan Johnson and Alison Gillmor: in Eckhardt-Gramatté Hall.

For Moving Images the Gallery will serve as a small cinema featuring five thematic shorts programs, each on view for only one week, thereby encouraging repeat visits to watch innovative works directed by University of Winnipeg alumni, current and former students and faculty/instructors.The programs are screened on a continuous loop in Gallery 1C03 during regular opening hours (Monday – Friday, noon – 4:00 p.m. and Saturday, 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.).

To complement the exhibition, Gallery 1C03 is partnering with the University Library to present Séances, Guy Maddin, Evan Johnson and Galen Johnson’s on-line film project with the National Film Board of Canada, as well as a small selection of Maddin’s collages. These works will be shown in the Hamilton Galleria located on the 4th floor mezzanine level of the Library. The exhibition will be available for viewing during the Library’s operating hours.
