The WFG-distributed film, Of Truth and Magic, directed by Curtis L. Wiebe and co-directed by Marlon Wiebe, will have its European premiere in May 2015 at the Short Film Corner at the Cannes Festival!
This year marks the 5th edition of Telefilm’s Not Short on Talent program at Cannes – Short Film Corner. Not Short on Talent is a Telefilm Canada initiative that promotes recent Canadian short films curated in programs that screen at the Short Film Corner and on a big screen in one of the theaters of the Cannes Market. This showcase is designed to increase the international exploitation of new Canadian short films and to promote Canadian talent to accredited buyers, distributors and international festival programmers.
Of Truth and Magic was one of only 39 films selected by curator Danny Lennon, founder of Prends ça court. This line-up will represent the diversity of Canadian talent and stories, with directors from all across the country.

When the secret Department of Unusual Occurrences (DUO) discovers the case files of a missing agent, it is up to the chief of the department and Agent W to discover the truth about Agent Y’s disappearance. Was she on the verge of unearthing the secrets of self-proclaimed ‘true magician’ Autumn Greywooly? Is Autumn Greywooly all that he claims to be? Did he have anything to do with the vanishing of Agent Y? A curious adventure into the realm of the unexplained!
ABOUT THE FILMMAKERS
Curtis L. Wiebe is a filmmaker, animator, musician and sculptor. Identifiable by flights of the fantastic in settings of winter forests and prairie landscapes, Wiebe’s art is full of imaginative characters brought to life as puppets and elaborate costumes.
Marlon Wiebe makes films that explore fantastical elements nestled neatly inside the everyday 9 to 5 world. He is heavily inspired by sci-fi b-movies and fantasy and works on the films that his brother Curtis Wiebe makes, usually involving puppetry.
