WestmAnimation is a partnership between the newly formed RAW (Rural Arts Westman) , a group that works toard nurturing intermedia-arts in the Westman Region; Assiniboine College and the Art Gallery of Southwestern Manitoba (AGSM). It was launched in 2022 with a call for submissions and a screening of short animations that coincided with the AGSM’s Open Circuit’s programming and in 2023 it was expanded to include workshops led by Alison Davis, Anita LeBeau and Murray Toews.
In 2025, WestmAnimation will be held concurrently with the exhibition of “8 Rooms” the installations that were used in Anita Lebeau’s animation of the same name. We are planning to to build on 2023 with more workshops that introduce our audience to further explorations of animation, digital media, etc. We will have access to Assiniboine College’s new media space or the AGSM’s studios, depending on which is most appropriate for the workshops and we are in the process of applying for funding to ensure workshop leads can be paid CARFAC fees.
