The Winnipeg Film Group (WFG) has an immediate opening for a permanent, part-time Box Office Manager.

The Dave Barber Cinematheque (DBC) is the Winnipeg Film Group’s exhibition wing. Via our Cinematheque, the WFG programs integral Canadian and the very best of world cinema – including shorts, documentaries, experimental films and features – to ensure that independent cinema is accessible to the Winnipeg community and that local and Canadian filmmakers and video artists have an on-going professional platform in Winnipeg by which to access audiences. 

The WFG’s Box Office Manager is a leader within our Cinematheque, responsible for managing the operation in support of Cinematheque’s programming array and for ensuring the quality of the audience experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Management / Supervisory
    • Supervise and manage a team of 5-10 house staff, projectionists, and volunteers.
    • Ensure exceptional customer service and technical quality in audience experiences.
    • Serve as an on-call box office staff member or projectionist as needed.
  • Operational Management
    • Oversee cinema operations, including facility management, financial reporting, and revenue streams.
  • Financial / Planning
    • Ensure Cinematheque operates within budget, aligned with WFG’s artistic mandate.

The Box Office Manager will report directly to the WFG’s Executive Director and will work directly with the Cinematheque staff that includes the Programming Coordinator, the Head Projectionist, and the Bookkeeper, among others.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 2-3 years of managerial or supervisory experience in a similar setting (cinema, restaurant, event management, etc.).
  • University degree in business administration, arts administration, or fine arts.
  • Strong financial literacy (budgeting, financial statements).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Online, Excel, Word, Outlook.

Assets:

  • Experience with WordPress and Photoshop.
  • Ability to manage inventory, rentals, and concessions.
  • Passion for the arts and director-driven cinema in Canada, and interest in artist-run culture.

 

SUMMARY OF THE OFFER:

The Box Office Manager is a permanent, part-time position within the Winnipeg Film Group, providing a salary of $29,848 per annum (28 hours per week, with some evening and weekend work on a regular basis via flex-hours).
