Remembering Erin Hembrador

Oct 29, 2022

The Winnipeg Film Group is deeply saddened to hear of Erin Hembrador’s passing. Erin was a talented Filipino-Canadian film professional, award-winning independent filmmaker and inspiring mentor who told poignant and sincere stories of the diaspora. Erin was nominated for Best Manitoban Director at the 2018 Gimli Film Festival for her debut short film, “Piece of Mind”, that also garnered the Audience Choice Award for Best Actor and the Audience Choice Award for Best Actress, and the 2019 winner of the Goldie Award for Best Performance at the Breakthroughs Film Festival. Her film “Mansanas” won 2022 Best Prairie Short Film Award at the FascinAsian Film Festival. Both “Mansanas”and “Container” (co-directed with Quan Luong) are currently screening in festivals worldwide, touching audiences with their moving stories of identity and humanity. A gifted storyteller who had many more stories to tell, we are grateful for her unique voice and the impact she had on the film community. The Winnipeg Film Group gives our sincerest condolences to Erin’s family, friends, colleagues and community at this difficult time.
