Alphonse has always lived in the shadow of his overbearing father. His decision to become a Catholic priest was based on his belief that it was the only profession that would keep him from committing the sins his father feared he would commit. Every time Alphonse showed the slightest interest in the evil ways of the world, the father’s response was punitive.

Set in 1945 in Canada, The Pavilion follows two sisters who are sent to live with relatives while their mother is hospitalized with tuberculosis and their father serves overseas. Equipped with a magical storybook, the girls embark on a journey through the countryside where the characters and objects from the book come to life, guiding them towards their mother.
