CONGRATULATIONS TO THE
2024 MOSAIC RECIPIENT, katnancy
We are excited to announce that katnancy received the 2024 MOSAIC Film Fund.

katnancy (they/she) is a collaborative, experimental media artist/writer, and lover of light(photo); born and raised by the rainforests and beaches of Gimuy in so-called Australia. They are of the Cumti-Bihacon Clan, a family tree rooted in the northern mountains of so-called The Philippines. Her blood-family name ‘Cumti’ means ‘firefly’ in Tuwali Ifugao – her father’s native language. Their name ‘katnancy’ was intergenerationally developed via the influences of her anglo-’Australian’ maternal lineage.
katnancy maintains an unrelenting commitment to, and study of, the entwinements between art, education and empowerment, with a focus on how light-based / photographic practices reveal / remind us of the constructed, manipulative nature of representation and perception and how these relate to value and power. She plays with and pushes the sensual, textured materiality of celluloid, analogue, and digital image-making processes. Returning to image revelation again and again as a ritual of surrender, crystallising and honouring the ever-presence of oblivion and divine coalescence.
For the Mosaic award, katnancy received the following funding for their new work:
• $5,000 in cash (eligible expenses can be used for production, post-production, living expenses, ASL support, child care if applying as primary caregiver)
• $3,000 in services from the Winnipeg Film Group (workshops/training, equipment, cameras, studio rental, etc.)
• The mentorship of an experienced woman filmmaker
• General Membership + Production Add-On with the WFG for one year
• A screening of their finished project at the Dave Barber Cinematheque and online on Cinematheque at Home
The peer selection committee was comprised of filmmakers: Danielle Sturk and Sidney Phommarath, both of whom were previous recipients of WFG Funds. The selection committee was chaired by WFG Production Programs Manager, Dylan Baillie.
A total of 7 submissions were received for this cycle of the award.
