The Winnipeg Film Group x Mentoring Artists for Women’s Art Next Frame Fund (also funded in part by the Dave Barber Memorial Fund) is a production support fund to support those who are women, non-binary, and 2-Spirit BIPOC emerging artists to produce a first or second independent short film or video. This fund can apply to all parts of the filmmaking process, including but not limited to:
- Living Expenses
- Research
- Production
- Post-Production
There is ONE award available in 2027.
This award includes:
- $5,000 in cash (expenses can apply to production, post-production, living expenses, ASL support, childcare etc)
- $3,000 in services from the Winnipeg Film Group (workshops/training, equipment, cameras, studio rental, etc.)
- 6 hours with a Mentor of the awardee’s choosing
- General Membership with Production Add-On for one year
- A screening of their finished project hosted by The Winnipeg Film Group
This program supports filmmakers who intend to work in narrative, experimental or documentary, or hybrid/cross-genre work on film or video. The award funding and timeframe would ideally support a short project- 3-10 minutes in length.
The mentorship offers focussed attention from a mentor of the awardee’s choice and is intended to serve their needs for the project. The mentor can reside anywhere, locally, nationally or internationally. The awardee can meet with them for 6 hours over a period of 6 months, in person or online, and they will be paid $600. The awardee and the mentor will be responsible for setting up meeting dates and times.
Thank you to Mentoring Artists for Women’s Art (MAWA) for their generous financial contribution to this award.
