Student Placement Job Call: Digitization and Collections Assistant
POSITION: Digitization and Collections Assistant (Term, 18 weeks). This is a Union Position.

SUPERVISOR: Reports to the Distribution Director; works closely with the Distribution and Collections Coordinator
HOURS: 20/week, Monday to Friday
START DATE: August 3, 2026
END DATE: December 4, 2026
WAGE: $19.69/hour, (in accordance with the Winnipeg Film Group’s Collective Agreement with IATSE Local 63)

This is a unionized position covered under the Collective Agreement between the Winnipeg Film Group and IATSE Local 63. All terms of employment, including wages and benefits, are subject to the provisions of the Agreement.

POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Winnipeg Film Group is seeking a Digitization and Collections Assistant for an 18-week term. This position is unionized and covered under the WFG’s Collective Agreement with IATSE Local 63. It is classified as a term, part-time role.
The role of the Digitization and Collections Assistant is to ensure the digitization and appropriate cataloguing of all titles located in the Winnipeg Film Group (WFG) Distribution Collection. The Digitization and Collections Assistant is expected to research the WFG Distribution Collection to determine which titles require digitization, conduct film inspections, and digitize optical and magnetic media. They will also assist with collections management and the organization of records. The individual will have the opportunity to curate a short film program featuring the digitized titles as well as composing an accompanying curatorial text.
The ideal candidate for the WFG’s Intern position is passionate about filmmaking and digital media, collections management, archiving, and film preservation processes, and is socially conscious and critically attuned to the ways in which institutional archives have omitted and altered certain voices and experiences. It is required that the candidate be interested in fields such as film and media studies, curatorial studies, cultural studies, anticolonial studies, archival studies, or film preservation. It is necessary that the candidate be proficient in email communications and able to use either Google or Outlook suites. It is requested, but not required, that the candidate be familiar with analog film and magnetic media technologies.
The main objectives for the Digitization and Collections Assistant are as follows:
- Work with the Distribution Director to develop a project plan.
- Research the WFG Distribution Collection to determine which film materials require attention.
- Conduct film inspection reports.
- Digitize optical and magnetic media.
- Work with the Distribution Director and the WFG Production Department to coordinate in-house film scanning.
- Communicate with filmmakers.
- Curate a short film program and write an accompanying curatorial text.
- Other Digitization and Collections duties as assigned by the Distribution Director.
- Compliance with all WFG Human Resources Policies, as amended from time-to-time.
Qualifications:
- Good team member/works well with others
- Strong attention to detail
- Responsible, reliable, and self-motivated
- Interested in film archives and preservation
- Proficient at Google Suite and Microsoft 365
- Passion for film and other forms of artistry
- Familiar with FileMaker Pro
- Familiar with Content Management Systems
- Familiar with digital film editing softwares, particularly Davinci Resolve
- The applicant must be either currently enrolled as a student or is able to provide proof of enrollment for the Fall 2026 Semester. International Students are ineligible for the SWP subsidy
