The Winnipeg Film Group is pleased to announce that Quan Luong is the recipient of the 2025 MFM Manitoba Film Hothouse Award for Creative Development.

Quan Luong is a Vietnamese Canadian filmmaker and cinematographer whose work has screened at prestigious festivals including Hot Docs, DOC NYC, and the Canadian Film Festival.

Some of his recent work include feature documentary Seeking FIRE (Superchannel), short documentaries I Hurt Myself and Tailor Made which won 3 Golden Sheaf Awards at the Yorkton Film Festival and earned back-to-back nominations at the Canadian Society of Cinematographers Awards. His latest short documentary Becoming Ruby premiered at the 2025 Hot Docs Film Festival and is streaming on Crave.
As a cinematographer, Quan’s diverse portfolio includes Finding Diamonds (CBC Gem), Taken Season 5 (APTN), feature film Don’t F**k With Ghosts (Hollywood Suite) and the recently wrapped narrative feature Welcome to Kurosawa House, featuring Jean Yoon (Kim’s Convenience).

 

The MFM Manitoba Film Hothouse Award for Creative Development recognizes the career of an established mid-career Manitoba filmmaker. It comes in the form of $10,000 in cash and $5,000 in WFG services to support ongoing research and development work leading towards the production of one or several film productions or projects.

Several submissions were received for this cycle of the Hothouse award, and Quan Luong was selected for the award by a peer assessment selection committee comprised of: Filmmakers/Artists Hazel Venzon and Curtis Wiebe.

 

The Winnipeg Film Group acknowledges the Manitoba Arts Council and Manitoba Film and Sound in their support of the MFM Manitoba Film Hothouse Award.
