WFG Deputy Director Presents Films in France

May 15, 2019

“Hey all! Monica here! I’m off to France to present four bilingual screenings of films from our recent large-scale initiative, Found in Translation / Traduction Fidèle.

This has been a very fruitful and exciting project for us. Funded by a Special Initiative grant from the Canada Council for the Arts, we translated and subtitled 36 short films from our collection into French and have toured them across Canada, Switzerland and now France.

While in France I will be introducing Program 3, Looking Forward and Moving Forward, in Rennes on Friday, May 17, as part of Le Festival Oodaaq.

Next I will travel to Bordeaux and in association with Monoquini during their Vues du Canada program I will present three programs:

  • Program 1, Time and Place, on Monday, May 20,
  • Program 3, Looking Backward and Moving Forward on Thursday, May 23, and
  • Program 2, (Being) Women in Canada, on Friday, May 24.

I’m thrilled that through special projects like this we can expand the audiences for Canadian independent short films. I am really looking forward to seeing the reactions of French audiences to this great work.

I’ll try to post about my trip and the screenings on Instagram. Follow the WFG here: @WinnipegFilm

Au revoir!
Monica
