May 27, 2021

Congratulations to the WFG 2021 MFM First Film Fund Recipients

We are excited to announce that three emerging filmmakers received the following funding as part of the 2021 cycle of the MFM First Film Fund:

Nathaniel Magbanua was awarded $2,000 in cash and $2,000 in WFG services for his short film “Taxi Night” (working title).

Maggie Collins was awarded $2,000 in cash and $2,000 in WFG services for her short film “Silver Moon”.

Nicole Loewen was awarded $2,000 in WFG services to help her make her short film “Telephone”.

The peer selection committee was comprised of filmmaker, producer and Indigenous Film Summit organizer Roger Boyer and visual artist and filmmaker Diana Thorneycroft, both of whom were previous recipients of the MFM First Film Fund. The selection committee was chaired by WFG Interim Executive Director David Knipe.

A total of 13 submissions were received for this cycle of the award.

Congratulations to Nathaniel, Maggie and Nicole and a big thank you to Manitoba Film & Music, who graciously furnish the cash component of the awards.
