Jazz Film Fest: Horn from the Heart: The Paul Butterfield Story

Fri, June 21 / 9 pm
Sat, June 22 / 7 pm
Wed, June 26 / 7 pm
Thu, June 27 / 9 pm

Friday June 21 & Saturday,  June 22 screenings introduced by Big Dave McLean – a veteran Canadian blues guitarist, top notch harpist, singer and songwriter.

Legendary blues musician Paul Butterfield has been called the greatest blues harmonica player of all time. A white, teen-age harmonica player from Chicago’s south side, Paul learned the blues from the original black masters including Muddy Waters, Paul’s mentor and lifelong friend, who was happy to share his wisdom and expertise with such a gifted young musician. He snatched guitar legend Mike Bloomfield from Bob Dylan’s group and put together a crackerjack blues band. The only artist to perform at The Newport Folk Festival in 1965, The Monterey Pop Festival in 1967 and Woodstock in 1969, Paul broke new ground in the blues while standing up for racial equality wherever he played. Featuring rare footage and interviews with Elvin Bishop, BB King, drummer Sam Lay and Todd Rundgren.

Generously sponsored by TD Winnipeg International Jazz Festival and Brian Wolfe, RE/MAX Professionals.
