Fair trade is gaining recognition as a legitimate response to globalization. Fair trade coffee puts more money in the hands of farmers by eliminating the middle-men on the chain of coffee trading. But what really motivates the movement? Does it simply ease the conscience of the middle class? Are large roasters jumping on the bandwagon to capitalize on consumer demands? Will fair trade coffee move into the mainstream?
