Going going gone

By Carole O'Brien | 00:02:37 | Experimental | 01/03/2008

A young girl’s dispute with her mother… and its unexpected poetic unravelling. She waves to the camera and as her turmoil disappears, so does she. (This film was commissioned by the Winnipeg Film Group’s Cinematheque for its 25th anniversary, Silverscope)

By Kevin Nikkel | 00:00:52 | Animation | 01/06/2003

Caretaker, The

By Allen Schinkel | 00:12:00 | Drama, Narrative-Fiction | 1/1/1987

By Solomon Nagler | 00:05:00 | Experimental | 1/1/1999

A work using the basic dramatic skeleton of a Greek tragedy while hanging rancid bits of contemporary meat on its bones.

surfacing

By Coral Aiken | 00:06:00 | Experimental | 1/7/2004

An experiment dance piece investigating the concept of surface. Shot in London, England. In camera editing.

Falling Man, The

By Zarah Laszlo | 00:03:30 | Animation, Experimental | 1/1/1999

The Falling Man is a mostly black and white computer animation about suicide, travel, and windows. It is based upon many Edward Hopper paintings. In honour of "Rumblefish", there is also one orange fish in the film, set against the monochromatic colour scheme.

Berlin

By Guy Maddin | 00:01:00 | Experimental | 01/01/2008

Maddin's film incorporates found footage to provide a glimpse of wartime Berlin. Crowds of soldiers march in formation, play instruments and engage in training drills. Burning fires and a frantic pace contrast with the organized movements of the troops, perhaps foreshadowing the destructive events to come.

Oak, Ivy and Other Dead Elms

By John Paizs | 00:33:25 | Comedy, Narrative-Fiction | 1/1/1982

Nick, the silent hero, sets off for college where he becomes involved in an attempt to restore the old campus hangout and in a dirty and hard-fought student election. The film weaves the tone of ‘40s college movies with a clever spoof of current electoral trends, suggesting how easily old fashioned ethics turn into fascism.

Buenos Aires Souvenir

By Sean Garrity | 00:05:34 | Drama, Narrative-Fiction | 1/1/2001

A woman ruminates about an episode where she was backpacking through South America, and had a brief sexual affair with an Argentinean man. An exploration of memory and objectivity.
