The Brothers Quay: Selected Shorts (WAG Rooftop Retreat)

Thursday, September 3
Doors at 7pm, Film at 8:30pm

Tickets on sale now!

Since the late 1970’s the identical twins Stephen and Timothy Quay have created an eerie series of short films using puppetry and stop motion animation that have spawned an enormous cult following. Their brilliant use of camera movement, typography, lighting and set design create a disturbing, unforgettable landscape. With chilling soundtracks and use of music they create a mysterious world of long repressed childhood dreams. This mesmerizing program includes some of their remarkable works including their masterful film Street of Crocodiles which Terry Gilliam selected as one of the ten best animated films of all time.

Cinematheque and the WAG present a trio of contemporary and classic art docs and films!

Enjoy summer nights and amazing skyline views as you support local artists, performers, and other groups on the WAG’s stunning Rooftop Sculpture Garden!

Enhance your rooftop experience with a dinner from SMITH, the award-winning restaurant from Inn at the Forks. Inspired by the artists, performers and groups that will grace the WAG rooftop this summer, Executive Chef Barry Saunders has curated a selection of menus that are big on flavour and fun, using the best local suppliers. Cash bar featuring select beer, wine and specialty cocktails available.

*Please note, in the case of inclement weather, the event will relocate to an indoor space in the WAG and refunds will not be issued. For the latest updates, check this page.

Presented in partnership with the Winnipeg Art Gallery.

Reviews

To enter into the impossible haunted night of a Quay Brothers film is to become complicit in one of the most perverse and obsessive acts of cinema.
