I AM A GOOD PERSON / I AM A BAD PERSON

OCT 5 - 7 / 7 pm
OCT 10 / 7 pm
DIR. INGRID VENINGER
2011 | CANADA | 82 MIN

Opening night Oct 5 – Introduction at 7:00 PM by Ingrid Veninger. Reception and Q&A with Veninger by Alison Gillmor to follow the screening at Winnipeg Free Press Cafe, 237 McDermot – 8:30 PM

Ingrid Veninger’s brave new feature as writer, producer and director presents another intimate and honest look at characters on the cusp of change. Filmmaker and Mother Ruby leaves her husband and son behind in Toronto and heads off to film festivals in Europe with her 18 year old daughter Sara as an assistant. Deaf to advice, a bundle of insecurities and a loose-wheel during interviews, Ruby over-shares, alienating all around her – Sara included. When the mother daughter relationship melts down, Sara suggests they go their separate ways for the remainder of the trip. Sincere and cinematic, and full of the exhilarating creativity characteristic of Veninger’s work, the film is about taking a good look at who you are, and where you want to go next.

I am a good person / I am a bad person is the opening film in a new Cinematheque series of female filmmakers, Fighting Words: New Works from Women Filmmakers. Running from October to February, the series features 10 screenings and a DIY Independent Filmmaking Workshop for Women with Ingrid Veninger, a filmmaking dynamo who formed pUNK films with a “Nothing is Impossible” manifesto.*DIY Women’s Filmmaking Workshop – Oct. 6 & 7

Reviews

"Funny and heartbreakingly moving...imbued with a sense of scope to allow its tenderness and intimacy to shine through." - Greg Klymkiw
