French Film Festival: Woman

Sunday, March 8 / 5 pm
Directed by Anastasia Mikova & Yann Arthus-Bertrand
2019, France, 105 min
English, French and Spanish with subtitles

Woman is a worldwide project giving voice to 2,000 women from 50 different countries. Despite its large scale, the film offers an intimate portrait of half of humanity shedding light on the injustices women are subject to the world over. But Woman emphasizes the inner strength of women and their capacity to change the world. You will hear the voices of women as you have never heard them.

Alliance Française du Manitoba is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to teaching and promoting French and its diverse culture. For the 6th time, the Alliance Française’s French Film Festival provides an opportunity to see a selection of vibrant new French features. Curated by Damien Ferland and Marie Lemeunier. With the support of the Government of Canada, Government of Québec, and Institut Française.

Reviews

A magnificent, touching documentary that is both funny and sad. Woman has a rather simple premise: women from around the world and from all walks of life talk about what, for them, it means to be a woman...motherhood, relationships, birth, death, rape, war, love, marriage, education, financial independence, kindness and joy...an empowering film..superbly edited. - Kaleem Aftab, Cineuropa
