Sun, Mar 8 / 3 pm
Directed by Louis-Julien Petit
2019, France, 102 min

After a municipal decision, a shelter for homeless women, “l’Envol”, is about to close. With only three months to reintegrate the women they care for, the social workers do everything they can: pulling-strings, bending the truth, and even outright lies… From now on, everything goes!

Alliance Française du Manitoba is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to teaching and promoting French and its diverse culture. For the 6th time, the Alliance Française’s French Film Festival provides an opportunity to see a selection of vibrant new French features. Curated by Damien Ferland and Marie Lemeunier. With the support of the Government of Canada, Government of Québec, and Institut Française. This screening is co-presented by Cinémental.

Reviews

Louis-Julien Petit is a French heir to Ken Loach whose latest film about poor people has been a crowd pleaser well received by the winter season French audience. Inspired by Claire Lajeunie's non-fiction book Sur la route des invisibles he focuses on a group of social workers who respond to the closing of their homeless women's day center (known as l’Envol) for being unprofitable by illegally requisitioning a vacant warehouse to replace it.
