Cinematheque at Home: The Trip to Greece

Held over! Plays May 22 - June 12
Directed by Michael Winterbottom
2020, UK, 110 min

Nearly ten years after their first journey together round the gastronomic hot spots of northern England,  Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon set off on a fourth and final expedition,  this time setting out from the ruins of Troy in modern-day Turkey as they head to Greece to retrace the steps of legendary king Odysseus, the hero of Homer’s epic poem The Odyssey, on his journey home to Ithaca at the end of the Trojan War. Steve and Rob’s semi-fictional alter-egos hit the road in search of culture, history, breath-taking vistas and, of course, some of the finest food in Europe.

Cinematheque at Home – curated by the Cinematheque – will offer new theatrical releases every week which our audiences can pay to stream through our website (by clicking the ‘buy tickets’ button). This is not only an opportunity for our patrons to see new cinema, but is an important way that they can continue to support independent film during this pandemic.

Reviews

A delicate and hilarious series of small-scale semi-improvised British comedies, The Trip films (“The Trip to Italy,” “The Trip to Spain,) have become old friends...kind of like Richard Linklater’s “Before” films... when you settle in to watch a new one, it’s to see which famous-actor impersonations Coogan and Brydon are going to try to top each other with this time.
- Owen Gleiberman, Variety
I find them hilarious, and I think this fourth and “final” outing in their “trilogy” is the funniest since the first.
- Roger Moore, Movie Nation
