Now in its 14th year, Canada’s Top Ten Film Festival features some of the most important and original Canadian films of the year. Organized and juried through  the Toronto International Film Festival, the series includes films from Quebec, Alberta, Nunavut and British Columbia and highlights the best independent shorts of the year.

Audacious and inspiring, this rapturously received new film from Québécois wunderkind Xavier Dolan shared the Special Jury Prize at Cannes with co-winner Jean Luc Godard. When single mother Diane brings her teenage son Steve home from a government institution for troubled youth, it’s both an act of maternal love and a huge risk: Steve is a volatile hell raiser with a hair-trigger temper, and Diane is barely keeping it together herself. When a shy neighbour (Suzanne Clément) takes an interest in mother and son, a surprising trio develops.” – Cameron Bailey

Generously  sponsored by IATSE 856 and Radio Canada Manitoba and presented with Tiff Canada’s Top Ten

Reviews

Funny, heartbreaking and above all, original... The result is as personal as ever, an ecstatic celebration not only of mothers, but of the two incredible actresses Dolan has adopted as muses along the way. -
