2019, Canada, 100 min

The seemingly separate lives of an anxious, disillusioned teen girl and a troubled, alienated man converge fatefully in this haunting exploration of womanhood, isolation, and toxic masculinity, set in 1980s Newfoundland.

Reviews

Jackie, a teen in late-80s Newfoundland, is dealing with the trials of adolescence, friendship, dating, belonging vs. conforming. Dennis, a lonely outcast, struggles with increasingly dark fantasies. What will happen when their paths cross? Nicole Dorsey’s debut feature, remarkably nuanced, reinvents the coming-of-age movie, using the brooding magnificence of the landscape to breathtaking effect. Ella Ballentine, as the young Jackie looking to follow her own star, is a revelation.
