Are you interested in learning the ins and outs of animation? Have you always wanted to be an animator but didn’t know where to start? Well look no further, as this is the class for you!

Animation School is a 5 week intensive crash course on all things animation. Each week, students will learn a new form of animation including: How to use the Oxberry Machine, Direct Animation, Digital Animation (using tablets), After Effects and much more!

Once the class concludes, each student will get to use the Oxberry Machine for free for one weekend of their choice!

Class Schedule: All class will be held in the WFG Black Lodge & Media Lab. (Room 304 – 100 Arthur Street)

Day 1 | Introduction to the world of Animation | 12pm – 4pm | June 8 

Description: An introduction into the world of Animation. This class is a lecture based class that will teach the students the history of animation and will touch upon different techniques used in Animation over the years.

Day 2 | Oxberry Machine Class | 12pm – 6pm | June 15 (tentative date)

Description: This workshop is an introduction that will cover the basics of using the Oxberry stand and controlling the camera in real-time from the main control panel. The skills and knowledge that you will acquire will enable you to make analog films on the stand and give you base skills that you will need to be able to learn how to integrate the time-line based OMOCO programmer and use of dragon frame with a digital camera in the future.

Day 3 | Direct Animation Class | 12pm – 4pm | June 22

Description: Direct animation is an analog technique for producing animated footage by applying images directly on the film plane. Unlike traditional modes of animation, direct animation is a cameraless process, and techniques include but are not limited to: drawing, painting, scratching, bleaching, printing, taping or otherwise bedazzling on film.

Day 4 | Intro to Digital Animation (How to use Animation Tablets) | 12pm – 3pm | June 29

Description: Learn how to use our Intuos Tablets, used for Digital Animation.

Day 5 | Intro to After Effects | 12pm – 5pm | July 6

Description: Learn the basics of After Effects!

-The Winnipeg Film Group reserves the right to cancel any course where the minimum registration has not been met. Anyone registered for a course that has been cancelled is eligible for a full refund, Cancelled course fees may also be used towards any other Winnipeg Film Group training programs.
