Alliance Française French Film Festival: The Aquatic Effect (L’Effet Aquatique)

Fri, Mar 16 / 7 pm
Directed by Sólveig Anspach & Jean-Luc Gaget
2016, France, 83 min

Samir, a 40-something crane operator, falls head over heels in love with Agathe, a feisty young woman he sees in a café. He discovers she is a swimming instructor at the local  public swimming pool, and, for lack of a better plan, he decides to enroll as her student – although he can swim perfectly. But his lie only lasts for three lessons, and Agathe hates liars.

Plays With:

Véronique à vélo by Chrystene Ells, Berny Hi
2011, Canada, 9:49 min
Véronique sits in a gilded cage of romantic expectations, impatiently awaiting her chronically late date. She takes to her bicycle in a burst of frustration and embarks on a ride through a looking glass, where she encounters surreal characters and schisms in reality, and undergoes a definitive transformation in consciousness.

Sponsored by Alliance Francaise du Manitoba and the Icelandic Consulate in Winnipeg.

Reviews

In her final directorial effort, Sólveig Anspach has managed to make a comedy in a most beautiful way.
