Afro Prairie Film Festival: Poetic Justice

Thu, Feb 20 / 9:30 pm
Directed by John Singleton
1993, USA, 109 min

Following the success of his incendiary debut, Boyz N The Hood, John Singleton used the model of the “American road movie” to frame Poetic Justice and frankly present the rough and sweet relationship dynamics found in the lives of two young people from South Central Los Angeles. Tragedy-stricken poet Justice (Janet Jackson) is initially closed off when she meets the brash and equally hard-hearted Lucky (Tupac Shakur). With a few friends, they embark on a roadtrip from South Central to Oakland, exploring their own identities and each other in the process. – TIFF
