Afro Prairie Film Festival: Keynote Address by Alison Duke

Black Space Winnipeg in partnership with the Winnipeg Film Group and Winnipeg Cinematheque is proud to present the opening of the 2020 Afro Prairie Film Festival, with this Keynote Address by Alison Duke.

Alison Duke is an artistic activist, award winning filmmaker and passionate producer committed to the Canadian visual art form. Since the early 90’s, she has remained in demand and consistent in illuminating Canada’s musical, documentary and dramatic content. She has produced such works as Raisin’ Kane: A Rapumentary (2001) and Through a Lens Darkly: Black Photography and the Emergence of a People (2014). Most recently, Alison directed Cool Black North, a two-hour TV documentary exploring the unique and vibrant Canadian Black community and its role in our country’s contemporary identity.  She also co-produced and co-wrote Mr. Jane and Finch (2019) for CBC Docs POV. Alison will address her career, the realities of being a Black woman in the film industry and speak to the importance of exploring and developing Black narratives in film.

We’re located in the heart of Winnipeg's historic Exchange District in the Artspace building. We are across the street from Old Market Square at the corner of Arthur Street and Bannatyne - one block west of Main.
