Directed by Wim Wenders
2011, Germany & France, 103 min
Although since the advent of Digital 3D it has typically been used as a gimmick in Hollywood blockbuster films, some of the most innovative experimenters of the cinematic form have been pushing 3D in new directions. With the recent installation of a state of the art 3D digital system in Cinematheque, we present some mind-bending explorations including one historic classic.
Wim Wenders, the legendary director of Paris, Texas and Wings of Desire created a beautiful film with the ensemble of the Tanztheatre Wuppertal featuring the unique and inspiring art of the great choreographer Pina Bausch, who died in 2009. Wenders takes the audience on a sensual visually stunning journey into a new dimension – straight onto the stage with the legendary ensemble. The film then follows the dancers out of the theater into the city and the surrounding areas of Wuppertal.
