The Afro Prairie Film Festival, together with Reelworld Film Festival’s Tonya Williams, presented local industry professional Joy Loewen with the 2020 Black Leadership Award of Distinction at the Networking Luncheon for Womxn in Film on Saturday, February 22, during the festival’s third annual edition.
Joy was recently appointed CEO of the National Screen Institute, continuing a career of impactful arts administration and programming in Winnipeg. Of the honour, Joy said: “I am here to support all of you. I can’t write. I can’t produce. You don’t wanna see me with a camera…” Joy has been a great champion of independent film in the city for many years, and the Winnipeg Film Group is thrilled to see Joy receive this very deserving recognition.
