PRODUCTION FUND

Fall 2008 Deadline: Monday, September 22, 2008 at 4 PM

Fund Overview

The Winnipeg Film Group's Production Fund is a juried program that provides cash and services awards to selected recipients / projects. Depending on the scope of a project, the Production Fund can provide full or partial funding. During any one round, applicants can apply for up to $4,000 in cash and $2,000 in services towards either the production or post production phases of a project

Unlike other production grant programs, the Film Group's Production Fund breaks up applications to production and post-production phases (you can apply onto for one phase at a time; if you obtain production funding, you can apply to the Production Fund a second time for the same project, for post-production funding). Both film and video projects can be considered for funding.

Production Fund applicants can also request to be considered for a services award from William F. White, valued up to $1,250. This service award is ideal for applicants proposing a narrative project (drama, comedy, etc.). Award recipients must have production insurance in order to access this services award.

This program is open to emerging, mid-career and advanced Manitoba filmmakers and video artists, who have made at least one independent film or video production as an artist / director / creator. First time filmmakers can apply to our First Film Fund, while emerging filmmakers are also eligible for our Manitoba Emerging Filmmaker Award (though not concurrently with the Production Fund).

There are two rounds of the Production Fund yearly – one in the spring and one in the fall.

Applicants must be residents of Manitoba and user members of the Winnipeg Film Group. Applicants must be the creator / director of the project, with full artistic control. Writers and / or Producers are not eligible to apply.

  • First Film Fund and MEFA funded projects are not eligible for funding support from the Production Fund.

Program Focus

It is important to remember that all the Winnipeg Film Group's production award funds support the development of projects that demonstrate creativity, excellent story telling and / or innovative approaches. As such we highly recommend that the primary focus of your application be on the CREATIVE COMPONENTS.

For example, we encourage filmmakers who are proposing narrative (drama / comedy) projects to dedicate time in advance of the application deadline to develop their stories and submit a script that has been re-written a few times.

Filmmakers can demonstrate technical and logistical capacity as a support to their ability to achieve their artistic vision, but demonstrated technical and logitical capacity does not replace a well-articulated artistic vision.

Acknowledgements
