CINEMATOGRAPHY SERIES: COMPOSING THE LANDSCAPE

Independent filmmaker, Shane Belcourt (Tkaronto) visits the 'Peg from January 11th - 22nd to introduce his films at The Cinematheque and lead a two-day workshop on cinematography at The Winnipeg Film Group.

In this hands-on/ informational workshop, Belcourt will share his knowledge and techniques as a camera operator. After the first class, participants will be encouraged to shoot their own footage using Shane's techniques during the week in between classes. Participants will then watch their footage and get feedback. An intermediate class sure to please the aspiring and experienced independent filmmaker.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR


Shane Belcourt is a writer, director, producer and cinematographer who resides in Ottawa, Ontario. His feature film, Tkaronto, was chosen as the Closing Night Film for the 2007 imagineNATIVE Film Festival. The film was shot in 17 days on a miniscule (and self-financed) budget. Belcourt studied Film Production for three years at York University before going on to pursue a music career where he was nominated for several Aboriginal Music Awards and a Juno. In the last five years, he has shot and produced thousands of hours of documentary footage on Métis / Aborginal issues for organizations, the web, APTN and Global TV. He has also written and directed numerous short films during this time including, Pookums and Squeeze Box. For more information on Belcourt, click here.
