DIRS. JEAN PIERRE & LUC DARDENNE | 2011 | BELGIUM, FRANCE, ITALY | 87 MIN (FRENCH w/ENGLISH SUBTITLES)
The Kid with a Bike is a deeply affecting story of an 11 year old boy who sets out in a desperate search for his father after his abandonment at a local children’s home. The boy literally runs into the arms of a hairdresser named Samantha who shows compassion and takes him on weekends as a foster parent.
Winner of the Grand Jury Prize at last year's Cannes Film Festival The Kid with a Bike is the work of master filmmakers in the social realist style of Truffaut’s The 400 Blows and The Bicycle Thief.
"Beautifully observed...a major achievement. The film should be required viewing for everyone who has lost faith in the power of random acts of kindess." -TRIBUNE
"No one makes movies like the Dardennes, the Belgian filmmaking brothers who combine a deadpan documentary style with vision that's astonishingly humane, empathetic and full of feeling...at a certain magical point, we are in the story." - SAN FRANCISCO CHRONICLE
