Dir. Gary Hustwit | USA | 75 min. | 2009 | Documentary

Gary Hustwit, director of the cult documentary Helvetica (about the type font) has created a “film that explores our relationship with stuff, which is sometimes joyous and sometimes conflicted, by going directly to the source…the people who design that stuff. Interviewees in several countries range from Dieter Rams, formerly one of the chief designers for Braun to Jonathan Ive of Apple and design superstar Karim Rashid.

Rams, who may very well have had a hand in designing the coffee maker or clock you use every day, lists the precepts of good design succinctly. The movie is particularly honest in the way it deals with the fact that cool stuff makes us want it – and designers are always coming up with ways to make newer, cooler stuff.” (Salon)

“As sleek and handsome as any of the new and improved household items it exhibits.“ - New York Times
