GIMME SOME TRUTH doc fest returns to Winnipeg for its fourth year, celebrating documentaries with legendary filmmaker Albert Maysles in attendance!
(Winnipeg - October 4, 2011) GIMME SOME TRUTH runs Oct 13 to 16, 2011 at Winnipeg Cinematheque, with film screenings, panel discussions, master classes and networking events. More information is available at the Gimme Some Truth website at gimmesometruth.ca.
The festival officially kicks off Thursday, Oct 13 at 7 PM with a gala screening of GREY GARDENS. Director Albert Maysles will be in attendance to speak about the film and answer audience questions. Maysles will also introduce his documentary SALESMAN on Friday, Oct 14 at 9 PM and will lead a special Master Class on Documentary on Saturday, Oct 15 at 10 AM.
Filmmaker Adam Bhala Lough (NY) will also be in attendance, to present his documentary THE UPSETTER, about the life and music of Lee "Scratch" Perry, and to lead a Master Class on Independent Music Documentaries.
Other programs include a spotlight on the Quebec Masters of the 1960's, a free-admission Community Documentary series focused on works created in collaboration with the community, and a world documentaries series that includes Patricio Guzmán's international award-winning NOSTALGIA FOR THE LIGHT. A special marketing case study on How to Make Money on Your Doc Short will be held Friday, Oct 14 at 12 noon. A number of networking events are also available to audience members and participants.
The closing night features a spotlight on Franco-Manitoban documentary, including a St. Boniface shorts program and a panel discussion on Bridging Cultures in New Franco-Manitoban Cinema.
GIMME SOME TRUTH is proud to feature the works of a number of Manitoba filmmakers, including Stéphane Oystryk, Ryan McKenna, Jaimz Asmundson, The Ephemerals (Niki Little, Jenny Western and Jamie Isaac), Laurence Véron, Dominique Rey, Remy Huberdeau and Leon Johnson & George Morrisette.
