DIR. MICHAEL KEARNS | 2011 | CANADA | 40 MIN
Introduced by Michael Kearns
Four Forty Four 21st Street in Brandon, Manitoba is where Michael Kearns was born and grew up until the age of ten. Although now based in England where he is one of three partners who make and restore violins in the firm of Oxford Violins, he returns to Winnipeg to introduce this deeply personal portrait of growing up in Brandon during the 1950s. Narrating a journey back through his old neighbourhood using a mixture of present day film and archival photos of friends and family, Michael reveals a poignant story of a rapidly vanishing past where in pre-computer days, the neighbourhood was a true extension of home life.
